product junkie | hair

its about that time for a little product update! I haven’t updated the list of products I use in awhile and have been asked quite a bit recently what I’m using, so I’m excited to share some originals + a few new favorites for my hair!

joico blue shampoo + conditioner

I love to switch up my shampoo and conditioner about every 6-8 weeks when I’ve run out of what I’m using. I feel like sometimes my hair gets a little dull with the same product on it for month and months, so I always ask the girl that colors my hair for something she’s loving for her clients and she directs me to something new.  I really love the pureology line of shampoos and conditioner and used that for a long time. matrix is another favorite. recently I was turned onto purple shampoo from joico and then it was recommended that I switch to the blue shampoo since I have naturally dark brown hair. I have heavily color treated hair so I use a shampoo and conditioner combo that helps keep the brass/yellow out of the blonde! this one smells yummy (a huge bonus in my book! Matrix brand shampoo and conditioner win hands down for the best smelling shampoo + conditioner). I found this image on Pinterest to explain the difference between blue and purple hair care.

drybar :: mr. incredible leave-in conditioner

I have a lot of hair and when I wash it I get so many tangles and can hardly get my brush through it! I typically use a detangler or leave in conditioner- like this one from drybar. I used its a 10 leave in miracle product for YEARS and still love it! I’ll probably go back to that after I finish out this bottle of leave in conditioner. these leave in conditioners last me about 6-8 months because it doesn’t take much to make a big difference!

living proof :: PhD 5-in-1 styling treatment

I tried this product a couple years ago after reading about it on another blog- I put it on my hair before I blow dry it for a smoother finish and a little extra boost of moisture/conditioning and protection since I go so long between washes and use heavy heat on it with my blow dryer and flat iron. it only takes about a dime size amount- I can get about 4-5 months out of this bottle.

redkin :: guts 10 volumizing spray mousse

an oldie but a goodie! I’ve tried MANY root booster products and this is my all time favorite. I’m generous with this stuff, so I go through a bottle in about a month and it never leaves my hair heavy or sticky when I’m styling it. I have made that mistake with other products and couldn’t even get my brush through my hair when blow drying.

kenra hair spray

another product I’ve used for about 10 years. my favorite hair spray! I use just a little bit after I’ve styled my hair on the first day after a wash for structure. a little goes a long way!

drybar :: dry shampoo + triple sec texture spray

I’m a dry shampoo snob and I’m not afraid to admit that. I rely on it often to get me through 4 days before a wash again. I’ve tried many and keep coming back to my favorites by living proof and drybar.  drybar dry shampoo smells heavenly, so I’m a big fan! it also doesn’t leave as much residue as others I’ve tried!  I use dry shampoo on day 3 after I’ve washed it and I feel like that cuts back on the heaviness of repeat use of hair product like this.

shower cap

I get a lot of questions about how I make it through 4 days of not washing when I’m working out multiple days a week. for years I have simply wrapped my head in a towel and finally a few months ago splurged for a shower cap.  honestly, I have no idea what I have been waiting on. I’m laughing at myself because Jordan has been telling me to buy a shower cap for I don’t even know how long.. and he was right. its essential! I use my cap for showering after a workout, blow-dry any dampness out of my hair, and then use a little texture spray or dry shampoo at the crown roots of my hair- I like drybar triple sec 2-in-1 texture spray (same stuff I use on Brady!). I’ll take my flat iron to give the curls some shape if they need it, but usually that gives my hair the boost it needs for the day!

I have used Redken Guts since I was a freshman in high school, so going on 18 years now (wow…) I feel like my hair knows if I don’t use it. It is my all time favorite hair product. I have no idea what I will do if they ever stop making this.

I use Pureology Shampoo and Conditioner but alternate kinds in the winter vs spring/summer/fall. I also started using Unite Weekender once a week and that’s been amazing for purifying my hair.

I’ve heard of the Unite brand and have been very curious of it! I’ll have to check that out! Thanks, Kelsey!

I’ve been wanting to try drybar but I’ve heard mixed reviews – I’m gonna have to just go for it though. I have thick curly hair and have been using Badlands dry shampoo paste. The smell is amazing! I liked living proof dry shampoo but I felt like I used 1/4 of the bottle each time
